    Job summary

    The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for a Technical Writer to join our Fuse Product Documentation team in Ireland. In this role, you will work as part of a team that promotes customer loyalty and success through content development and delivery. You'll create and be responsible for customer-facing technical documentation that accompanies Red Hat’s offerings, which will be made available online through the Red Hat Customer Portal. As a Technical Writer, you will define the scope of, quality test, and deliver writing projects while maintaining a customer focus by participating in existing feedback programs and consistently developing your technical expertise. Drawing from your passion for both technology and the English language, you’ll work closely with developers, engineers, field teams and support engineers, and other subject matter experts to create content that helps our customers understand our offerings and find the best solutions for their needs.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Work closely with content strategists, engineering project teams, support teams, and other stakeholders to create and maintain high-quality documentation for upcoming releases of Red Hat’s offerings
    • Effectively manage documentation projects and deliver customer-focused and goal-oriented documentation
    • Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
    • Keep up to date on changes in our offerings, customer use cases, and support issues
    • Provide consulting advice (peer reviews and so on) to other technical writers to help improve their content
    • Master the use of our versioning systems (GitHub and GitLab) and issue-tracking tool (JIRA)

    Required skills

    • Fluent written and verbal language skills in English
    • Familiarity with Red Hat’s offerings and related industry offerings
    • Experience with information architecture or 3-5 years of enterprise-level technical writing experience
    • Experience with modular or topic-based documentation, especially converting to topic-based content from traditional book models
    • Demonstrated solid interest in and aptitude for learning complex technical solutions
    • Ability to read, write, and compile technical documents, including feature descriptions, customer use cases, and release notes using industry best practices
    • Ability to collaborate in a global team environment, actively engage subject matter experts, and follow through on commitments
    • Experience writing clear and concise procedural documentation for a technical audience
    • Familiarity with version control systems; experience and comfort using Git is a big plus

     

    The following are considered a plus:

     

    • Familiarity with middleware-based technologies like Apache Karaf, Apache Camel, OSGi, WildFly, or Spring Boot
    • Familiarity with open source cloud technologies like Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes
    • Familiarity with AsciiDoc and lightweight markup editors (Atom, Gedit)
    • Working knowledge of and experience operating in a Linux environment using the command line
    • Understanding of open source principles and community dynamics
    • Experience with the agile methodology and comfort with rapid iteration and fast delivery
