    Job summary

    The Red Hat Chief Technology Officer (CTO) team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us in U.K. In this role, you will focus on the creation of technical and functional solutions, coordinated across the CTO networking, internal engineering, and customer-facing teams and built with practical work, strategy, and architecture. Depending on the solution needed, you’ll work with our engineering, consulting, and sales teams, external communities, customers, or Red Hat partners. You’ll need to have both a networking technical and a networking operations expertise. As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll help us build high-quality solutions for our network functions virtualization (NFV) partners and customers, while also working on internal engineering tasks like contributing to the downstream Red Hat products.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Perform coding and scripting as needed
    • Build and present proofs of concepts either on your own or together with the customers
    • Work closely with specific sales teams and directly with customers in some cases
    • Travel to customer sites as necessary
    • Attend conferences and serve as Red Hat’s trusted advisor as necessary

    Required skills

    • Deep understanding of current networking technologies used in virtualization technologies, including Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenStack Platform
    • Deep understanding of networking hardware, including popular vendor equipment such as Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, Nokia, etc.
    • Coding and scripting skills in languages like Python, Java, or Ansible, and the ability to learn new languages quickly
    • Deep understanding of network operations, large-scale service providers, or enterprise networks; previous experience operating large-scale service provider networks is a plus
    • Ability to create proofs of concepts and solutions on your own and on time
    • Ability to work and present to the customers; experience serving as a trusted advisor for a company
    • Experience with open source software and open source communities
    • Experience in networking-related standard bodies is a plus; understanding of relevant standards is a must
