    Job summary

    Work with and manage a team of highly skilled software engineers to design and develop on-premise and cloud-based data access and transformation services. The Red Hat Middleware Engineering team is looking for an Associate Manager to join us in Brno, Czech republic. In this role, you will be responsible for an offering that is part of the Red Hat Middleware suite and an open source solution based on popular open source projects to provide data integration capabilities on-premise and in the cloud. You'll be responsible for a geographically distributed team of 10-12 engineers, immersing yourself in the day-to-day work of the team, responding to the needs of the team, and facilitating coaching and career development for the engineers on your team. As an Associate Manager, you'll need to have a record of leading a team of highly skilled developers, a solid knowledge of agile development processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to guide technical discussions with architects and business teams. This is a great opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community who are founders and committers on major open source projects.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Build and manage a high-performing software development team
    • Serve as a people manager for your team with responsibility for establishing objectives, providing feedback, fostering career development, and providing active coaching of associates
    • Work with product management and engineering teams to develop technology roadmaps and schedules and communicate these schedules to multi-disciplined program teams
    • Serve as a scrum master and scrum coach for your team with responsibility for the planning, implementation, and delivery of tasks
    • Organize sprint planning meetings, end-of-sprint demos, and retrospectives
    • Promote agile best practices among the teams and guide positive change within systems and processes by monitoring what works well and by identifying areas for improvement
    • Work with cross-functional managers and teams on documentation, product management, and quality engineering (QE) to coordinate tasks necessary for releasing enterprise-quality software

    Required skills

    • Degree in computer science or a related discipline
    • Experience as a people manager
    • Previous experience with a geographically distributed team
    • Technical background in software development
    • Ability to understand technical requirements and communicate with authority on a technical level
    • Practical experience as a scrum master, product owner, or scrum coach delivering software projects is a big plus
