    Job summary

    The Red Hat Core Kernel team is looking for a Software Engineer to join our largest engineering site in Brno, Czech Republic. In this role you will participate in the development of industry-leading technology in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) kernel on selected core kernel areas in live patching, crypto, or kernel tracing. You'll be required to handle a high degree of working on your own while working on feature requests and bug fixes. As a Software Engineer, you will work as part of a globally distributed team in a close cooperation with many well-known kernel developers on one of the largest open source software (OSS) projects of all times in an open, friendly, and helpful environment.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Primary responsibilities include upstream and downstream development work and defect triage in the Linux kernel and several closely related user space packages
    • Review patches
    • Cooperate with the Quality Engineering (QE) team on test development and execution
    • Cooperate with other kernel teams and Red Hat’s partners on future feature planning
    • Work on internal tooling to support kernel development

    Required skills

    • Proficiency in C programming language and its ecosystem
    • Experience with scripting languages like Bash or Python
    • Good understanding of kernel programming and general kernel concept
    • Solid communication skills in order to work in a geographically distributed team
    • C++ experience is not required, but might be useful for specific user space development
