    Job summary

    The Red Hat Middleware Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join us in Spain, Italy, or the Czech Republic. In this role, you will work with a team of engineers responsible for developing and maintaining Red Hat Fuse, which is part of the Red Hat Middleware suite of offerings and is an open source offering based on popular open source projects, providing integration capabilities both on-premise and in the cloud. You’ll be responsible for a geographically distributed team of 8-10 engineers, immersing yourself in the day-to-day work of the team, responding to the needs of the team, and coaching and enabling the career development of the engineers on your team. As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll need to have a record of leading a team of highly skilled developers, solid knowledge of agile development processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to guide technical discussions with architects and business teams. This is a great opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community who are founders of and committers on major open source projects.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Build a high-performing team; serve as a people manager for your team with responsibility for establishing objectives, providing feedback, career development, and active coaching of associates
    • Work with product management and engineering teams to develop technology roadmaps and schedules and communicate these schedules
    • Participate in agile planning and development activities and help to continuously improve the way we work
    • Promote agile best practices across the team and promote positive change within systems and processes by monitoring what works well and identifying areas for improvement
    • Work with cross-functional managers and teams on documentation, product management, and quality assurance (QA) to coordinate tasks necessary for releasing enterprise quality software

    Required skills

    • Experience as a people manager
    • Practical experience working with agile methodologies
    • Technical background in software development; ability to understand technical requirements and communicate with authority at a technical level
    • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and upskill in your team's technical area
    • Organized and methodical approach to work; good attention to detail
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to interact comfortably with the other members of a large, geographically distributed team
    • Excellent presentation and writing skills; ability to convey your work and that of your team to a wide audience
    • Ability to serve as a facilitator for team-based discussions
    • Prior experience working remotely is a plus
    • Experience with open source development is a plus
