    Job summary

    The Red Hat JBoss Quality Engineering (QE) team is looking for an engineer with Java and Linux experience and understanding of usual internet application layer protocols to join us as a Quality Engineer in Brno, Czech Republic. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of quality for Red Hat JBoss Web Server, which includes several versions of Apache Tomcat, spanning from older maintenance releases all the way to the latest Apache Tomcat 9 on Java 11. You’ll design complex test scenarios and develop automated tests and testing frameworks in Java and Groovy. You’ll solve problems, perform deep root cause analysis, and provide fixes for problems found. As a Quality Engineer, you’ll need to be able to think creatively and adapt to change, as well as be willing to learn new things. We use variety of tools, so you might find yourself running Docker containers, stepping Java web applications in a debugger, or configuring Jenkins jobs. The job can take you to sending particular sequences of bytes in order to exploit Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) one day and to configuring a large Jenkins lab orchestration the next day. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in building the next generation of open source Java web frameworks and Java middleware while working on offerings used by people all over the world.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Serve as an internal advocate for our customers
    • Design and develop new tests and test automation on various environments like different clouds providers or operating systems
    • Develop new test applications for Red Hat JBoss Web Server
    • Investigate results of your test automation
    • Analyze and prioritize the quality risks posed by Red Hat Middleware offerings and determine the tests required to mitigate these risks
    • Document new bugs and advocate their resolution and fixes with developers
    • Communicate the impact of these bugs to customers with developers and support
    • Gain an understanding of Java and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) internals
    • Constantly learn new things and maintain an excellent command of contemporary technologies

    Required skills

    Experience with the following technologies:

     

    • Java, web applications, REST APIs, connecting to databases, and threads
    • Apache Tomcat, configuration, and connectors
    • Linux
    • Jenkins
    • Debugging in an IDE and remote debugging
    • Docker, at least on the user level
    • Bash
    • Maven, understanding of transitive dependencies, BOMs, and repositories
    • Git and GitHub
    • At least rudimentary CS, complexity, and concurrency
