    Job summary

    The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join the Prometheus monitoring team in Berlin, Germany. Prometheus is the leading monitoring solution for Kubernetes. As part of the Prometheus team, you will work on upstream feature development and automation of Prometheus and on integration with Red Hat OpenShift for cluster and application monitoring. As a Software Engineer Intern, you’ll work closely with a senior level employee that will serve as your mentor and project team lead. With their guidance, you will immediately begin contributing in ways that will be meaningful to your overall career goals and that will be actively used by the open-source community. This unique opportunity will allow you to receive feedback from both your mentors and the open source ecosystem.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Actively contribute to high-profile open source projects including Prometheus, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift
    • Work with the Kubernetes community on the instrumentation conventions
    • Implement meaningful monitoring, metrics, and alerts for use within Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes ecosystem
    • Collaborate with other engineering teams on monitoring integration
    • Improve production reliability and test infrastructures
    • Create and design a new operator and Kubernetes Custom Resources to improve instrumentation and dashboard in Kubernetes
    • Implement the operator in Golang
    • Advocate for these open source projects by doing presentations and demos in meetups, conferences, and online community meetings

    Required skills

    • Familiarity with the Linux ecosystem is a plus
    • Basic programming skills like shell scripting and system debugging
    • Passion for coding and willingness to learn new languages
    • Familiarity with the programming language Go is a plus
