    Job summary

    The Red Hat Product Security team is looking for a Senior Security Engineer to join us in Australia. In this role, you will contribute to security efforts for the Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (JBoss EAP), based on Apache Tomcat and httpd, as well as emerging technologies like software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV). You’ll perform code reviews and security tests and implement automated testing to reduce the chance of security flaws existing in supported releases. As a Senior Security Engineer, you will also reduce the risk to Red Hat customers by constantly monitoring for vulnerabilities and threats that affect their components, triaging their impact on customers, and quickly addressing any issues found. You’ll need to be able to uphold Red Hat's incomparable record for addressing security flaws in our solutions, while ensuring that our security measures are consistent and dependable in all of our offerings. This position is available to work remotely in any city in the world.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
    • Proficiency in Java; knowledge of scripting languages like Bash, Python, Ruby, etc., is a plus
    • Ability to review code and quickly identify security bugs
    • Knowledge of Java middleware; JEE and OSGi is a plus
    • Knowledge of the Linux operating system
    • Thorough understanding of computer security concepts, particularly the exploitation and prevention of vulnerabilities at the code level
    • Ability to meet strict deadlines while maintaining quality when handling emergency security issues
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Good organizational skills; ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams

    Required skills

    • Fundamental understanding of container technology and the underlying operating system
    • Understanding of Kubernetes or OpenShift by Red Hat and related orchestration technology and their related architectures and risk profiles
    • Fundamental security assessment and response experience
    • Good understanding of services as a deployment paradigm and source of risk
    • Good relationship and communication skills
    • Solid grasp of software engineering principles and processes at scale
    • Scripting and programming skills
