    Job summary

    Create and oversee customer-facing technical documentation that accompanies Red Hat’s offerings, which will be made available online through the Red Hat Customer Portal. The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for a Senior Technical Writer to join our 3Scale Product Documentation team in Barcelona, Spain. In this role, you will work as part of a team that promotes customer loyalty and success through content development and delivery. You'll define the scope of, quality test, and deliver writing projects while maintaining a customer focus by participating in existing feedback programs and consistently developing your technical expertise. As a Senior Technical Writer, you will draw from your passion for both technology and the English language and work closely with developers, engineers, field teams and support engineers, and other subject matter experts to create content that helps our customers understand our offerings and find the best solutions for their needs.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Work closely with product management, engineering project, and support teams and other stakeholders to write high-quality customer-focused documentation for Red Hat 3scale API management
    • Meet with stakeholders to understand upcoming features and deadlines, discuss issues, triage needs, and implement fixes regularly
    • Create and carry out content plans, communicating and reporting on your progress to stakeholders across the team and organization
    • Work with writing team members to continuously guide a comprehensive documentation strategy in support of Red Hat’s documentation initiatives and the customer experience
    • Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
    • Understand the documentation toolchain and work with other writers to improve documentation infrastructure and procedures

    Required skills

    • Fluency in verbal and written English
    • Familiarity with Red Hat’s offerings and related industry offerings
    • 5+ years of enterprise-level technical writing experience
    • Experience writing modular and topic-based documentation, especially converting to topic-based content from traditional book models
    • Working knowledge and experience operating in a Linux environment using the command line
    • Ability to read, write, and compile technical documents, including feature descriptions, customer use cases, and release notes using industry best practices
    • Ability to collaborate in a global team environment, proactively engage subject matter experts, and follow through on commitments
    • Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git
    • Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for learning new technologies

    The following are considered a plus:

    • Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or an arts or language field
    • Familiarity with API management tools
    • Familiarity with AsciiDoc and lightweight markup editors like Atom or Gedit
    • Understanding of open source principles and community dynamics
