    Job summary

    Create infectious enthusiasm for building great software using principles of open source and agile culture. The Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) Consultancy team is looking for a senior DevOps Architect to join our Open Innovation Labs and Architecture practice in Sydney, Australia. In this role, you will help us move our lab engagements beyond a technology implementation toward an organizational transformation. You’ll focus not only on technology, but also people and processes. You’ll work in a residency-style engagement, collaborating with customers in small teams to build, test, and iterate over innovative application prototypes attached to real business value. As a DevOps Architect, you will be the lead architect in our lab engagements, co-creating innovative software solutions using emerging open source technology and modern software design methods in an agile environment. You’ll be responsible for coaching the team and facilitating the design and technical delivery of the solutions. You'll support everything from the scoping of Open Innovation Labs residencies to delivering the engagements. This role ideally suits a senior architect with the passion for coaching teams, design, communication, and delivering complex solutions.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Lead the discovery, architecture, design and implementation of application prototypes in our lab and delivery of solutions using modern application development practices and open source emerging technologies
    • Help us cover domains like microservices, API management, and web-scale architectures, DevOps engineering and application delivery, container-based continuous delivery (CD) using OpenShift Enterprise, cloud automation, and everything-as-code
    • Team up with Red Hat and the open source community to engineer Open Innovation Labs-based software solutions, designed to further accelerate our customers' success at Open Innovation Labs
    • Work as a trusted advisor to our customers and use your critical thinking skills to tackle tough problems in an innovative way
    • Present vision, strategy, technology and roadmaps to executives, technical management, engineers and operators
    • Remain a hands-on-keyboard coder and maintain deep direct technical knowledge of container management systems, application infrastructure, architectures, and development solutions
    • Support presales and post-sales field teams during workshops, proofs of concepts, pilots, and production deployments
    • Actively contribute to and guide the creation of reference architectures, design considerations, and best practices
    • Assist in the development of standard reusable consulting service offerings, including definition of tasks, deliverables, and standard estimates

    Required skills

    • 8+ years of experience as a software or consulting architect or in similar roles
    • Proven experience architecting, designing, and developing complex customer solutions in a rapidly evolving technology domain
    • Experience facilitating software design, architecture, and ideation sessions
    • Ability to perform customer-facing activities in a fast-paced environment with short timeframes
    • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other container tools
    • Ability to uncover business challenges and develop custom solutions to solve these challenges
    • Working knowledge of automation tools like Ansible by Red Hat, Puppet, or Chef
    • Working knowledge of object-oriented design and design patterns applicable to modern software development
    • Applied knowledge of working with agile, scrum, and DevOps teams
    • Proven experience with software development, including languages, systems, and frameworks like Java, Ruby on Rails, Go, messaging (ActiveMQ, JMS), SQL, NoSQL, and Hadoop
    • Applied knowledge of modern software delivery methods like TDD, BDD, continuous integration (CI), and CD
    • Clear understanding of cloud service and deployment models
    • Comfortable working with highly distributed teams, including interaction with open source communities
    • The ability to study on your own and quickly learn and put into practice new topics
    • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related technical discipline
    • Willingness to travel up to 50% to customer locations throughout ANZ with occasional global travel
