About the job

Are you intrigued by how things work? Are you looking for an opportunity to flex your software development skills in a different way? Red Hat’s Ansible Engineering team is the place for you!  Quality Engineers at Red Hat are not just testers; they are developers who design and automate creative ways to exercise software to identify potential problems. Find out more about what it is like to work in Red Hat QE directly from our engineers in this video.

The Ansible Engineering organization is looking for a Software Quality Engineer to join the Ansible Controller engineering team (Controller is the downstream version of AWX). We’re looking for someone who loves automating repetitive tasks, getting elbows-deep into source code and systems to perform root-cause analysis of issues, advocating for high standards of software engineering, and is comfortable jumping between the three. That’s where you come in. The role requires the ability to think creatively and adapt to rapid change, as well as the willingness to learn new things and closely collaborate with development and quality teammates.. If you have a strong software automation background and are comfortable with testing Software as a Service, we’d love to hear from you!

What you will do

  • Own design reviews and automated testing for major product features and bug fixes. You'll be responsible for creating and carrying out test plans, researching new features, developing automated tests, and maintaining and enhancing test frameworks
  • Serve as an internal advocate for our customers, providing data-driven product quality metrics to all major stakeholders, to enable logical decision-making with proper risk assessment
  • Help grow a company-wide community of Quality enthusiasts that's passionate about our customers’ needs and ways to ensure the presence of quality in all aspects of the software lifecycle
  • Develop technical initiatives that grow, improve, and scale our existing processes, as well as helping us identify what we should be doing next
  • Work with customers to understand pain points

What you will bring

  • Active programming/scripting skills using Python
  • Knowledge of CI systems like Jenkins or Travis
  • Experienced with technologies such as, Git, Continuous Integration, containers, and have a solid background in Linux.
  • Experience with GitHub, GitLab, or other collaborative code forges
  • Fluent written and verbal English language skills
